Motor City Comic Con postpones its original May dates in the wake of coronavirus

Another big Detroit gathering is postponed for now because of the coronavirus pandemic.

This time, it's the pop culture gathering of the year, Motor City Comic Con.

Michigan's biggest and longest-running convention for comic book, movie and TV fans announced Monday that the event needs to rescheduled, It was originally set for May 15-17.

The decision was made in order "to provide a safe and healthy environment for attendees, guests, exhibitors, and team members," according to the official release.

The Motor City Comic Con drew more than 70,000 fans to Novi in 2019 with its array of celebrities, panel discussions, vendors and autograph and photo opportunities with star performers and artists.

This year's scheduled guests included Kiefer Sutherland, Detroit's own rock legend Alice Cooper,  Freddie Prinze Jr., and Creed Bratton of the sitcom classic "The Office."

Those who've bought tickets, special passes or other options for the event can expect full refunds in seven to ten business days, according to Motor City Comic Con.

Refunds also will be given to artists and vendors who purchased exhibit space.
