Here are the latest coronavirus updates from San Juan County, Four Corners region

After low numbers of COVID-19 cases most of September, the cases began increasing toward the end of the month.

The month of September began with 25,460 New Mexicans having contracted the virus since March. That number increased to 29,435 by the end of September.

Human Services Department Cabinet Secretary Dr. David Scrase said on Oct. 1 that he believes the public health orders the state has issued are the right ones to control the spread, but he emphasized that people need to adhere to these orders and avoid large gatherings.

During the first Facebook live update of the month, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham urged New Mexicans to limit the number of places they go each day.

Updates for Saturday, Oct. 31

3:45 p.m.: After two consecutive days of new COVID-19 cases surpassing 1,000, the New Mexico Department of Health is reporting 592 new cases on Oct. 31. The new cases include 17 San Juan County residents.

The state also reported 11 new fatalities.

The new cases raise the total number of New Mexicans who have tested positive for the virus since March to 46,490 and of those people 1,018 have died.

On Oct. 31, there were 354 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state.

Updates for Friday, Oct. 30

9:34 p.m.: The Navajo Department of Health, Navajo Area Indian Health Service and Navajo Epidemiology Center report 90 new cases of COVID-19 for the Navajo Nation.

The total number of positive cases is 11,694. The tally includes three previously unannounced cases.

As with previous weekends, the Navajo Nation will be under lockdown for 56 hours starting at 9 p.m. and ending on Nov. 2 at 5 a.m.

In a press release from the Office of the President and Vice President, tribal President Jonathan Nez said the Navajo Police Department will conduct checkpoints throughout the weekend to enforce the lockdown.

"We strongly urge all Navajo Nation residents to remain home, especially during Halloween. This is a very troubling trend in terms of new cases and community spread," Nez said.

Public health officials are advising against in-person gatherings and activities, such as door-to-door trick-or-treating, costume contests held in person, large dinner parties with members outside the household, haunted houses and fall carnivals.

"Currently, public health emergency orders prohibit in-person gatherings of five or more," the release states.

Health agencies shifted reporting the number of cases in each county that comprises tribal land in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah to reporting cases in the eight service units under the Navajo Area IHS.

Three additional deaths were reported by the agencies, increasing the death toll to 578.

The report states 7,533 people have recovered, and 124,712 tests have been administered.

4:58 p.m.: New Mexico added 1,010 new cases of COVID-19 on Oct. 30 and 13 additional deaths, raising the state’s total to 45,909 people who have tested positive for the virus and 1,007 deaths.

The new cases include 28 San Juan County residents. Bernalillo and Doña Ana counties continue to lead with the highest number of cases at 335 and 248, respectively.

Sandoval County added 36 new cases, while McKinley County added 33 new cases. Rio Arriba County added seven new cases.

As of Oct. 30, 334 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19.

The state reports that 78% of the general beds and 75% of the intensive care unit beds are currently occupied. Those percentages include both COVID-19 positive patients and patients who are hospitalized for other reasons.

The Department of Health has also identified at least one positive COVID-19 case in residents and/or staff in the past 28 days at 67 long-term care facilities, including Aztec Healthcare in Aztec and Red Rocks Care Center in Gallup.

Updates for Thursday, Oct. 29

9:52 p.m.: For the first time since June, the Navajo Nation saw more than 100 new COVID-19 cases in a single day.

Health agencies reported 130 new cases today, a situation tribal President Jonathan Nez called "dire" before warning that the tribe is "on the verge of a major health care crisis."

"The Navajo Department of Health is now warning the public about the possibility of community spread of COVID-19, meaning that individuals may contract the coronavirus without knowing how they were exposed," Nez said in the press release from his office.

He added the tribe has a limited number of contact tracers and the rise in cases makes it difficult for them to investigate.

"The Navajo Nation is in a very dire situation right now, but we have the ability to reverse this trend. We know how to beat the virus and we need to stop thinking only of ourselves and think of our elders, children and those with underlying health conditions," Nez said.

The latest figure brings the total number of cases to 11,602, which includes 10 previously unannounced cases.

No recent deaths were reported, keeping the death toll at 575.

The report also lists 7,528 people as recovered and 124,109 tests as administered.

The Navajo Nation will be under a 56-hour weekend lockdown starting at 9 p.m. on Oct. 30 and ending at 5 a.m. on Nov. 2.

4:19 p.m.: New Mexico added 1,082 new cases of COVID-19 on Oct. 29 and three additional deaths, raising the state’s total to 44,904 people who have tested positive for the virus and 994 deaths.

The new cases include 17 San Juan County residents. Bernalillo and Doña Ana counties continue to lead with the highest number of cases at 260 and 248, respectively.

Sandoval County added 41 new cases, while McKinley County added 25 new cases. Rio Arriba County added 12 new cases.

The Otero County Processing Center and the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Valencia County each reported two new cases, while the Penitentiary of New Mexico in Santa Fe County reported one new case.

4:05 p.m.: New Mexico had 590 new cases of COVID-19 on Oct. 27 and four additional deaths, raising the state’s total to 43,169 people who have tested positive for the virus and 980 who have died.

The new cases include 24 San Juan County residents. Bernalillo and Dona Ana counties continue to lead with the highest number of cases: 141 and 163 respectively.

Sandoval County had 32 new cases while McKinley County had 14 and Rio Arriba County had five.

Updates for Sunday, Oct. 25

5:14 p.m.: A day after reporting a record number of 875 new COVID-19 cases, New Mexico health officials reported 828 more confirmed cases Sunday along with two additional deaths.

The latest numbers increase the state’s totals to 41,863 cases and 967 known deaths.

Fifteen of the new cases were in San Juan County. New Mexico Department of Health officials say 206 of the new cases were in Dona Ana County with 156 more in Bernalillo County, the state’s largest that includes Albuquerque.

Saturday’s case count topped the 827 cases newly reported on Wednesday. New Mexico reported 669 cases Thursday and 797 on Friday.

There were 287 individuals hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19 as of Sunday, and a state press release said that “77 percent of general beds at New Mexico hospitals are occupied, and 50 percent of ICU beds across New Mexico hospitals are occupied. This includes patients hospitalized for COVID-19 and other illnesses.”

There were 20,837 COVID-19 patients who have recovered.

2:04 p.m.: Navajo Nation health officials report 64 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 but no additional deaths for the fifth consecutive day.

The latest figures released Saturday night bring the total number of cases to 11,217 with the known death toll remaining at 574.

Tribal health officials said 121,274 people on the vast reservation that covers parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah have been tested for COVID-19 since the pandemic started and 7,466 have recovered.

A shelter-in-place order, mask mandate, daily curfews and weekend lockdowns remain in effect on the Navajo Nation.

3:31 p.m. - The state of New Mexico reported 875 new cases of COVID-19 on Oct. 24 and the number of new cases of coronavirus for San Juan County residents has doubled from the previous day.

The New Mexico Department of Health on Oct. 24 announced 41,040 New Mexicans tested positive for COVID-19 with five new deaths.

A total of 31 San Juan County residents tested positive on Oct. 24, an increase from 14 on Oct. 23. There were no new deaths announced on Oct. 24.

There have been 965 deaths in New Mexico from COVID-19 since the pandemic started.

There are 264 people hospitalized in New Mexico and 20,765 COVID-19 cases listed as recovered.

About 80 percent of general hospital beds and 76 percent of ICU beds occupied in the state. Those numbers include patients hospitalized for coronavirus and other illnesses.

Updates for Friday, Oct. 23

9:17 p.m.: The Navajo Department of Health, Navajo Area Indian Health Service and Navajo Epidemiology Center report 47 new cases of COVID-19 and three cases that were previously unannounced.

There have been 11,151 people tested positive for the virus on the Navajo Nation.

A 56-hour weekend lockdown will start at 9 p.m. and end on Oct. 26 at 5 a.m.

Health officials shifted reporting the number of cases in each county that comprises tribal land in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah to reporting cases in the eight service units under the Navajo Area IHS.

There have been no recent deaths since Oct. 19, keeping the total number of COVID-related deaths at 574.

The latest figures and tallies were released by the Office of the President and Vice President and it included reports that 7,438 people have recovered while 120,475 tests have been administered.

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez commented in the press release about the high number of new cases in New Mexico, Arizona and Utah and reminded tribal members to stay safe.

"These are all very devastating trends that are similar to many other states across the country. The safest place for our Navajo people is at home here on the Navajo Nation. Please stay home this weekend, do not host or attend family gatherings, avoid large crowds, wash your hands often and if you have to haul wood or report to work, please wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times. We have to do better, and we have to do more to save lives and protect our people," Nez said.

4:45 p.m.: The New Mexico Department of Health says 797 New Mexicans tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 23, raising the total number of residents who have contracted the coronavirus to 40,168. The new cases include 14 San Juan County residents.

A San Juan County man was among the seven new COVID-19 fatalities recorded on Friday. He was in his 40s and had underlying conditions. The virus has killed 960 New Mexicans since March.

Updates for Thursday, Oct. 22

11 p.m.: The Navajo Department of Health issued a new public health emergency order today to implement 56-hour weekend lockdowns for the rest of the month.

According to the Office of the President and Vice President, lockdowns will take place from 9 p.m. on Oct. 23 to 5 a.m. on Oct. 26 and from 9 p.m. Oct. 30 to 5 a.m. on Nov. 2.

The office reminds the public that the weekday curfew remains in effect from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The health department, along with the Navajo Area Indian Health Service and Navajo Epidemiology Center, reported 70 new COVID-19 cases for the tribe today.

The tally of positive cases is now 11,101 and includes one previously unannounced case.

Update for Wednesday, Oct. 21

4:05 p.m.: New Mexico saw a large spike in COVID-19 cases on Oct. 21 when health officials say 827 people tested positive for the disease. This raises the number of New Mexicans who have contracted the virus to 38,715. And state health officials say the disease killed eight more people, bringing the total number of fatalities to 950.

The largest number of new cases on Oct. 21 was in Bernalillo County where the state reported 292 cases. Meanwhile, San Juan County had 25 new cases.

There are 202 patients hospitalized in the state as hospitals near capacity. General beds set aside for adults are 80% full and intensive care units for adults are 71% full.

4 p.m.: Officials warn that hospitals are reaching capacity and 81% of the general beds for adults are occupied in the state. Meanwhile, 71% of the intensive care unit beds set aside for adults are occupied. This includes both patients with COVID-19 and without COVID-19. There are 205 patients who have COVID-19 who are hospitalized.

State health officials say 599 additional New Mexicans have tested positive for COVID-19, raising the total number to 37,896 as the virus spreads at a rapid rate through the state. Additionally, seven new fatalities were included in the Oct. 20 report, raising the number of deaths to 942.

Updates for Sunday, Oct. 18

10:18 p.m.: As the Navajo Nation neared the end of another 56-hour weekend lockdown ending at 5 a.m. on Monday, President Jonathan Nez Sunday urged people to stay home and keep wearing masks and using other safety precautions to combat the spread of COVID-19.

President Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer announced that they will host a town hall meeting via the Nez-Lizer Facebook page on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. to give the public updates on the fight against COVID-19.

The Navajo Department of Health and other agencies reported 42 new COVID-19 positive cases for the Navajo Nation Sunday. No new deaths were reported.

“The total number of deaths is now 573 as of Sunday, including one delayed reported death,” the Office of the President and Vice President said in a press release. “Reports indicate that 7,381 individuals have recovered from COVID-19, and 116,368 COVID-19 tests have been administered. The total number of positive COVID-19 cases is now 10,955.”

Nez compared those numbers to numbers in surrounding states and urged residents to remember how low case numbers were last month. Health officials in New Mexico reported 448 new novel coronavirus cases, Arizona reported 742 new cases and Utah reported 1,097, the release said.

“On September 8th, we had zero new cases and several weeks later we’re at this point,” Nez said in the release. “We did it before and we have the power to do it again. Let’s work together and continue listening to our public health experts and to rely on data. Contact tracers and health care workers are doing a great job helping to contain the spread of COVID-19, but they can’t stop people from traveling, that is an individual choice that each of us has to make to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”

7:06 p.m.: Health officials in New Mexico on Sunday reported 448 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. There were also five additional deaths, according to the Associated Press.

The latest numbers increase the total cases to 36,788 statewide since the pandemic started with 934 known deaths.

Of the new cases, New Mexico Department of Health officials say 151 of them were in Bernalillo County.

There were eight new cases reported in San Juan County. None of the five people reported dead Sunday were residents of San Juan County.

New Mexico set a single-day record with 819 confirmed COVID-19 cases Friday and had 577 more on Saturday.

These figures and tallies were released on Oct. 16 by the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President and listed 7,362 people as recovered. There have been 114,788 tests administered.

The tribe remains under a lockdown that started Friday evening and concludes at 5 a.m. on Oct. 19.

Update for Friday, Oct. 16

4 p.m.: New Mexico continued its streak of record-breaking cases of COVID-19, reporting 819 new cases of the disease on Oct. 16. That is the highest number ever recorded in the state, breaking the previous day’s high.

Two counties had more than 100 cases: Bernalillo County with 178 and Dona Ana County with 146. Meanwhile, San Juan County had 29 new case and Sandoval County to the south had 42. Rio Arriba and McKinley counties had relatively numbers of new cases, four and five respectively.

The state also saw an increase of six fatalities, including a San Juan County resident in her 70s with underlying health conditions who was hospitalized at the time.

The new cases mean that 35,770 New Mexicans have contracted the virus and of those people 928 have died. The state classifies 19,613 of those cases are having recovered.

There are 168 patients hospitalized in state as of Oct. 16.

3:10 p.m.: New Mexico shattered the previous record of highest COVID-19 cases in one day by nearly 100, breaking the previous day’s record of 577. Health officials on Oct. 15 reported 672 new cases of COVID-19 in New Mexico.

“These are the highest levels that we’ve been at,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham

Additionally, the state recorded one new COVID-19 death.

“This is an example of where we don’t want to be and unfortunately we are,” the governor said, regarding the 74% increase in hospitalizations this month that could challenge the ability for people to get medical care.

There are 150 people hospitalized and 21 of them are on ventilators.

The governor said the virus is now prevalent everywhere and people need to stop going places in order to get the virus under control.

The latest figures and tallies were released by the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President and included reports that 7,358 people have recovered while 113,985 tests have been administered.

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez commented on New Mexico reporting its largest single day increase for COVID-19 cases and on continued increases in new cases in Arizona and Utah.

"The safest place for our Navajo people to be is at home on the Navajo Nation. We continue to have cluster cases caused by family gatherings and travel off the nation," Nez said.

He encouraged people to stay home, wear face masks, practice social distancing, avoid crowds and frequent handwashing.

5 p.m.: New Mexico had its highest number of new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 14, passing 500 cases for the first time. Health officials say 577 people tested positive for the virus. Of those people, 25 were San Juan County residents. The largest increase was in Bernalillo County, where 199 people tested positive.

The new cases mean 34,290 New Mexicans have contracted the coronavirus.

Of those people, 19,127 have recovered and 921 have died, which is an increase of three.

There are 145 people hospitalized in state.

4:05 p.m.: New Mexico saw an increase of 355 new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 13 as Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced an extension of the public health orders as well as modifications that include limiting gatherings to no more than five people and requiring establishments that sell alcohol to close by 10 p.m.

The new cases – which brought the total case count to 33,713 – includes nine San Juan County residents. The county with the highest number of new cases is Bernalillo County, which had 121 new cases.

Of the 33,713 New Mexicans who have contracted the virus, 18,960 have recovered and 918 have died. The number of fatalities increased by three in the Oct. 13 report.

There are 125 patients – including some who may be out-of-state residents – hospitalized with COVID-19 in New Mexico.

6:45 p.m.: Health officials on the Navajo Nation report 30 new cases of COVID-19 today.

The total number of positive cases is 10,728. This includes two cases that were previously unannounced "due to delayed reporting," according to the Office of the President and Vice President, which released the latest figures.

There were six more deaths related to the disease, raising the death toll to 571.

The release from the president's office states that there will be another public health emergency order issued this week to implement a 56-hour lockdown from Oct. 16 at 9 p.m. to Oct. 19 at 5 a.m.

The order will also revise the weekday curfew to start at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m., the release states.

There will be a town hall meeting to provide updates about COVID-19 and the 2020 Census on Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. on the Nez-Lizer Facebook page.

4:30 p.m.: New Mexico registered five deaths among its 486 new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 10, according to figures from the Governor's Office.

New Mexico has totaled 32,722 cases of the virus. Of the five deaths recorded on Oct. 10, two were from San Juan County – a man in his 30s with underlying conditions and a woman in her 80s with underlying conditions who had been hospitalized. The county also reported 11 new cases of the virus, and its total has reached 3,460 cases.

The other Oct. 10 deaths were recorded in McKinley County, Lea County and Eddy County. Bernalillo County had the most new cases in the state with 167.

A total of 202 San Juan County residents have died after becoming ill with COVID-19. Statewide, the virus has claimed 907 lives.

8:10 p.m.: The Navajo Department of Health, Navajo Area Indian Health Service and Navajo Epidemiology Center reported 42 new cases of COVID- 19 and one death today.

Also reported were eight additional cases that were previously unannounced "due to delayed reporting or reconciliation," according to a press release from the Office of the President and Vice President.

The release reminds the public that the tribal land is under a 57-hour lockdown that started at 8 p.m. and ends at 5 a.m. on Oct. 12.

The latest tallies show that the total number of positive cases is 10,632 while the death toll is 564. There are 7,314 people who have recovered from COVID-19 while 112,053 tests have been administered.

4 p.m.: New Mexico saw its highest number of new COVID-19 cases reported on a single day on Oct. 9, when the 488 residents received positive tests. The previous high came on July 27, when there were 467 new cases reported by health officials.

The new cases reported on Oct. 9 include 19 San Juan County residents. The county with the largest number of new cases was Bernalillo County, which had 135 new cases.

Since the pandemic reached the state in March, 32,241 New Mexicans have tested positive for the virus. Of those people, 18,335 have recovered and 902 have died. The number of fatalities increased by three on Oct. 9.

There are 133 patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

10:50 p.m.: The Navajo Nation saw 32 new cases of COVID-19 today as well as one additional death related to the disease, raising the death toll to 563.

The total number of positive cases has reached 10,582. The tally includes four cases that were previously unannounced "due to delayed reporting or reconciliation," states a press release from the Office of the President and Vice President.

The update stated that 7,312 people have recovered while 111,430 tests have been administered. The tribe will be under a 57-hour lockdown from 8 p.m. on Oct. 9 to 5 a.m. on Oct. 12.

3:35 p.m.: New Mexico has seen a 38% increase in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 since the start of the month. According to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham's weekly update livestream, there are 119 people hospitalized and 18 of them are on ventilators.

The day after New Mexico saw the second highest number of cases since the pandemic began, Lujan Grisham warned that if behaviors don't change the state is in danger of widespread illness and economic rollbacks.

Lujan Grisham spoke to the state while in quarantine after possibly being exposed to someone who had contracted the virus.

There were 387 New Mexico residents who tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 8, including 10 San Juan County residents. More than 100 of the new cases were Bernalillo County residents.

New Mexico also recorded three additional COVID-19 deaths on Oct. 8.

Since the pandemic began, 31,756 New Mexicans have tested positive for COVID-19 and 18,045 of those people have recovered.

There were also 18 cases that were previously unannounced "due to delayed reporting or reconciliation," according to a press release from the Office of the President and Vice President.

The agencies shifted reporting the number of cases in each county that comprises tribal land in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah to reporting cases in the eight service units under the Navajo Area IHS.

The latest figures and tallies were released by the president's office and included reports that 7,301 people have recovered while 110,405 tests have been administered.

There will be a town hall meeting by Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. It will stream on the Nez-Lizer Facebook page.

The release noted that today New Mexico reported 426 new COVID-19 cases while Arizona reported 604 new cases and Utah reported 1,007 new cases.

"The state of New Mexico reported its second highest daily number of new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 426. In every state that encompasses the Navajo Nation, the overall daily numbers are increasing daily, along with the number of hospitalizations. We know that there's fatigue and frustration settling in among many people across the country because of the pandemic, but our elders taught us to be strong and to fight through adversity. Please be strong and remember the adversities that our ancestors overcame long ago. Keep fighting and keep praying for your family members, and everyone that is struggling during this time," Nez said in the release.

4 p.m.: As New Mexico's COVID-19 cases spike, the state health officials reported 426 new cases on Oct. 7, including 10 San Juan County residents. The highest number of cases was in Bernalillo County, which had 120 new cases of the virus.

The state also reported two new COVID-19 fatalities, including a San Juan County resident in his 60s who was hospitalized and had underlying medical conditions.

The new cases mean that 31,372 New Mexicans have had COVID-19 and 896 of those people have died. Meanwhile, 17,766 people have recovered. There are 109 people hospitalized with the virus in the state.

4:19 p.m.: State health officials on Sunday announced there are 189 new COVID-19 cases in New Mexico, eight of those in San Juan County.

The state also reported two more deaths, a man in his 70s from San Juan County who had underlying conditions and a man in his 50s from Doña Ana County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

As of today, there are 91 individuals hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19 and there are 17,270 COVID-19 patients designated as having recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health.

A 57-hour lockdown continues for the Navajo Nation, which is scheduled to end at 5 a.m. on Oct. 5.

"The safest place to be this weekend is at home on the Navajo Nation. The towns and cities near the Navajo Nation continue to report high numbers of COVID-19 cases. Our health care system on the Navajo Nation cannot handle another large surge in cases. Please stay home, wear a mask, wash your hands, practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings," Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez said in the press release.

3:45 p.m.: New Mexico continues seeing high numbers of positive COVID-19 test results, recording 298 new cases on Oct. 3. But while the state numbers spike, San Juan County’s new cases remain relatively low. There were four new cases reported.

Since the pandemic was first detected in the state in March, 30,296 New Mexicans have contracted the virus and the disease has claimed 890 lives, including three new deaths reported on Oct. 3.

At the same time, the state health officials say 17,210 people have recovered from the coronavirus.

There are 95 patients hospitalized in New Mexico with COVID-19.

The latest figures and tallies were released by the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President and it included reports that 7,262 people have recovered while 107,765 tests have been administered.

4:10 p.m.: New Mexico saw its largest single day increase in COVID-19 cases since July 29 on Oct. 2, recording 341 new cases. Nine of the new cases are San Juan County residents. The county with the largest number of new cases is Bernalillo County, where health officials say 99 people tested positive on Friday.

The state also recorded five additional deaths among people with COVID-19. This raises the number of coronavirus-related fatalities to 887.

New Mexico has had 30,000 residents contract the virus since the pandemic was first detected in the state in March. Of those people, 17,055 are designated as having recovered.

Meanwhile, there are 89 patients hospitalized with the disease in the state.

Updates for Thursday, Oct. 1

7:25 p.m.: The Navajo Department of Health, Navajo Area Indian Health Service and Navajo Epidemiology Center report 13 new COVID-19 cases for the Navajo Nation.

There were no recent deaths included in the update today. However, there was one additional case that was previously unreported due to delayed reporting.

The agencies shifted reporting the number of cases in each county that comprises tribal land in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah to reporting cases in the eight service units under the Navajo Area IHS.

The total number of positive cases is 10,369 and the total number of COVID-related remains at 556.

The tribe will be under a 57-hour lockdown from 8 p.m. Oct. 2 through 5 a.m. Oct. 5.

3:30 p.m.: New Mexico health officials reported 227 new cases of COVID-19 on Oct. 1, raising the number of residents who have contracted the coronavirus to 29,661. The new cases include eight San Juan County residents.

The state also recorded five new fatalities, including a Rio Arriba County resident in his 20s who had underlying conditions. Since March, 882 New Mexicans have died of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 19,926 New Mexicans have recovered after catching the virus.

There are 86 patients hospitalized in the state and 11 of them are on ventilators.
