Absentee ballot process opens for election

FARMINGTON — The Navajo Election Administration’s agency offices will start accepting applications on Monday from voters who want to receive an absentee ballot by mail for the tribe’s Aug. 30 primary election for chapter seats, school boards and other offices.

The application can be found under the “upcoming events” box on the election administration website, navajoelections.navajo-nsn.gov. Voters also can request one by telephone from any agency election office.

Applications must be received by the agency election offices by Aug. 16.

Early walk-in voting starts on Monday at any of the agency election offices in Shiprock and Crownpoint, and in Chinle, Tuba City and Window Rock in Arizona.

Offices will be closed on Monday, Aug. 15 in observance of Navajo Code Talkers Day, and the last day to complete the early walk-in voting process is Friday, Aug. 26.

Voters in the primary election will determine which candidates will continue to the Nov. 8 general election.
